Cops build case vs. suspect in NoCot gun attack

KIDAPAWAN CITY — Police authorities in Matalam, North Cotabato are building a case against a farmer who shot and seriously injured a security guard and a minor Wednesday night.

Maj. Bryan Placer, Matalam municipal police station chief, said police investigators have identified the perpetrator of the 9 p.m. ambush as farmer Rahib Aplal, of Barangay Kilada.

Investigation disclosed that Esmael Musib, 32, a security guard, and his companion, a 17-year-old boy, both residents of Barangay Aringay, Kabacan, North Cotabato, were on board a motorbike heading to the town center when Aplal allegedly opened fire on them using a .45-caliber pistol.

The suspect hurriedly left on board a separate motorcycle driven by an accomplice while the villagers rushed the victims to the Babol Clinic in Poblacion Matalam.

“Personal grudge could be the motive of the gun attack,” Placer said, adding that the suspect remains at large as of this posting.

Wednesday night’s shooting in Matalam was the 110th incident that was recorded by the North Cotabato police since January 1 this year. (PNA)
