A Historical Scene: 498th Anniversary of the Battle of Mactan

I had the opportunity to personally witnessed the 498th Anniversary celebration of the Battle of Mactan or Kadaungan sa Mactan at Lapu-lapu, Mactan last April 27, 2019.

The Battle of Mactan was fought in the Philippines on April 27, 1521, prior to Spanish colonization. The warriors of Lapu-lapu, a native chieftain of Mactan Island overpowered and defeated a Spanish force fighting for Rajah Humabon of Cebu, under the command of Ferdinand Magellan who was killed in the battle.

The celebration of the 498th Anniversary of the Battle of Mactan started with a holy mass.

Lapu-lapu City Mayor, Paz Radaza graced the Kadaungan sa Mactan celebration. She praised the bravery of Lapu-lapu who killed Magellan in 1521.

Rene Escalante, Chairperson of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines led the floral offering at the statue of Datu Lapu-lapu at the Mactan Liberty Shrine.

Kapuso actor, Derrick Monasterio played the role of Datu Lapu-lapu during the reenactment of the Battle of Mactan.

Kapamilya actor, Mark Neuman plays Ferdinand Magellan during the reenactment.

Among those present during the reenactment of the Kadaungan sa Mactan were actor Dennis Padilla, the National Youth Day 2019 pilgrims, a crowd of local and foreign spectators, including myself.

My travel experience this year 2019 is truly amazing and unforgettable as I personally witnessed the 498th anniversary celebration of the Victory of Mactan.
